Terms of Service
Last updated: 24 October 2026
These terms apply when you use Elephant Trunk: the website at elephanttrunk.ai, the web app, the AI connector, the API and the related services (together, "the service"). Please read them. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to them.
1. Who we are
Elephant Trunk is made, run and sold by Johannes Moll, an individual in Singapore ("we", "us"). Elephant Trunk is the name of the product, not a separate company. You can reach us at support@elephanttrunk.ai. We answer every email within 12 hours.
2. Buying through Paddle
Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle provides all customer service inquiries and handles returns.
When you buy a subscription, you buy it from Paddle, and Paddle's buyer terms apply to the purchase. Paddle charges your card, collects any sales tax or VAT, issues your receipt and handles payment questions and refunds. These terms apply to your use of the service itself.
3. Your account
- You must be at least 13 to create an account. If the law where you live sets a higher age for consenting to the use of your personal data, you must be at least that age.
- Give us a working email address and keep your sign-in secure. You are responsible for what happens under your account, including what the AIs and keys you connect do.
- A seat is for one person. AI connections, API keys and devices do not need seats.
- Tell us at once if you think someone else has got into your account.
4. The service
Elephant Trunk stores your files and lets you, the people you share with and the AIs you connect read and change them. We keep improving it, so features may change. We will not remove a core feature you are paying for (storage, AI connections, versions, sharing, export) without telling you first and letting you cancel. Features marked beta, including the AI add-on, may change or end at short notice. Their charges stop when they end.
We work to keep the service available and your files safe, with backups at a second provider. We do not promise uninterrupted service. You can export your files at any time.
5. Plans, the trial, renewal and cancellation
- Prices are shown on our pricing page and at checkout, in US dollars and before tax. Sales tax or VAT is added at checkout where it applies.
- The trial: a 7-day trial costs US$1. Unless you cancel before it ends, the subscription you chose starts automatically. The first month is charged at the monthly price less US$1, and after that at the full monthly price. Checkout shows the dates and amounts, and we email you 48 hours before the first charge. The trial has 10 GB of storage and preview-only share links (at most five).
- Renewal: subscriptions renew automatically, monthly or yearly, and are charged at the start of each period until you cancel.
- Seats: in Family/Team and Business plans, a member counts once they accept an invite. Paddle charges for a member added during a period pro rata. A member removed during a period is credited from the next renewal.
- Cancelling: cancel any time in Settings. You keep access until the end of the period you have paid for, and then the subscription ends. Your files stay available to export for 30 days after that, and are then deleted as described in the privacy policy.
- Refunds: you can ask for a refund within 14 days of the first payment of a subscription: the US$1 trial on a monthly plan, or the first year's payment on a yearly plan. Renewals and later payments, including the first full month after the trial, are not refunded. Where the law of your country gives you more rights, those rights apply and Paddle handles them. Details are in our refund policy.
- Price changes: we give at least 30 days' notice by email before a new price applies to you. It applies from your next renewal after that, and you can cancel before then.
6. Your files
- Your files are yours. We claim no ownership of anything you store.
- You let us store, copy, convert (for example a PDF into text an AI can read), index and display your files only as needed to run the service for you. That includes showing them to the people, share links and AIs you have given access.
- We do not use your files to train AI models, and we do not sell them or use them for advertising.
- We do not look at your files except when you ask us to (for example, in support), when we must to keep the service secure or stop abuse that has been reported to us, or when the law requires it.
- You must have the right to store and share what you upload.
7. AIs you connect
When you connect an AI (for example Claude or ChatGPT), it acts for you, with at most your access. You can give it read-only access. Its provider handles what the AI receives under that provider's own terms and privacy policy, not ours.
Every change an AI makes is recorded with its name and the person it acted for, and can be undone. Undo restores files, but it cannot take back what an AI has already read. Text in a file, such as a PDF or web page from someone else, can try to instruct an AI that reads it. Connect only AIs you trust, and check what they do in the Agents view.
What an AI writes, whether it is yours or the AI add-on's, can be wrong. Check it before you rely on it, and don't use it as professional advice (legal, medical, financial) without a person reviewing it.
8. Family/Team and Business plans
- The person who buys the plan is the Owner. The Owner pays, invites and removes members, and manages the shared folders.
- Folders are shared with all members by default. A member can mark their own top-level folders "only me". No one else can open them, not even the Owner.
- A member's AI sees what that member sees: the shared folders and that member's "only me" folders. So text in a shared file can lead a member's AI to copy something from an "only me" folder into a shared one. Every such change is recorded and can be undone.
- When a member is removed, their connections and keys stop working at once. They get a link to export their "only me" folders, which are deleted after 30 days. Their changes in shared folders stay, with their name on them.
- If the Owner deletes the account, every member is notified and can export their files for 30 days before deletion.
- For a business plan, the Owner's organisation is responsible for its members' use and for having a lawful basis to put their data into the service. We process that data on its behalf. A data processing addendum is available on request.
9. Our service and its name
The service, its software, design and the name Elephant Trunk belong to us. These terms give you the right to use the service while your account is active. They do not transfer any of our rights to you. If you send us feedback, we may use it freely.
10. Acceptable use
You may not use the service to:
- store or share anything illegal, including child sexual abuse material, which we report to the authorities;
- distribute malware, run phishing pages, or host content to defraud or deceive people;
- infringe anyone's copyright, trademark, privacy or other rights;
- harass, threaten or exploit anyone, or share someone's private information without their consent;
- send spam, or use share links as a general file host for distributing content to the public at scale;
- try to break into, overload, scrape, test or get around the service's security or limits, or reach other users' data, except through a security report to us;
- resell the service or create accounts in bulk.
We may remove content, disable share links, or suspend an account that breaks these rules, and will tell you why unless the law or safety prevents it. Every shared page has a report button, or you can email us.
11. Copyright complaints
If a share link shows material that infringes your copyright, email support@elephanttrunk.ai with the link, the work concerned and your contact details. We will disable the link while we look into it, and tell the account holder, who may respond.
12. Ending the service
You can cancel and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or end your account for a serious or repeated breach of these terms, for a security or fraud risk, or if Paddle cannot collect payment after its usual retries. Unless the breach is serious (illegal content, malware, an attack), we will warn you first and give you time to export your files. If we ever stop running Elephant Trunk, we will give you at least 60 days' notice to export everything, and refund unused prepaid time pro rata.
13. Liability
We provide the service with reasonable care and skill. Apart from that, and as far as the law allows, we provide it "as is", without other promises. That includes promises that it will be uninterrupted or free of errors.
As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for lost profits, revenue or data beyond our duty to keep backups as described. Our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid for the service in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence. Nothing here takes away rights you have as a consumer under the law of the country where you live.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change matters to you, we will email you at least 30 days before it takes effect. If you do not agree, you can cancel before then. Small fixes and clarifications apply when they are published here.
15. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of Singapore, and the courts of Singapore have jurisdiction. Please write to us first. Most problems can be solved by email.
